Many men would love to find a way to lose abdominal fat. Most people find a big, flabby stomach very unattractive. Having a flat stomach and tight abs makes us look leaner, fitter and younger.
It is also important to lose abdominal fat to improve our health. When we are apple shaped, with our excess weight concentrated around the belly, the danger to our vital organs is very great. Much of the weight is carried by visceral fat surrounding the heart, liver and other organs. This can lead to death.
So, how can you lose abdominal fat? Diet and exercise are definitely the two biggest factors.
Lose some of that belly fat with the right diet.
A lot of men are under the wrong assumption that going to the gym a few times a week will give them a flat, hard stomach. Unfortunately, this is not true. If you are carrying excess fat, it is not easy to change that into muscle with exercise alone. You will not impress anybody with your muscles if they are still hidden under a layer of belly fat.
Diet needs to be taken into consideration at this point. You already know what you should eat, so there is no point in discussing that again. Just try to replace some for the candy, beer and pizza with healthier foods. Protein supplements can also help you keep your intake of high fat meats under control. Using a calorie counter can help you see where you need to make some modifications.
Use exercise to shed some of that belly fat.
There are all kinds of exercise that target your abdominal muscles. The traditional crunches always work good, but other exercises such as the bicycle crunches work even better at tightening stomach muscles. The bicycle crunch is one of the preferred exercises to tighten both the muscles around the waist and to create a six pack.
You should start by laying on your back on the floor, holding your hands behind your head. As you raise your bent knees toward your chest, lift your shoulder blades off the floor. Turn your body away from the stretched leg and use the leg to pedal in the air.
So while your right leg is straightening out your left knee is coming in toward the chest, and you are twisting the upper body to the left and bringing the right elbow toward the left knee. Be careful not to pull on the neck or head at all, just rest the hands behind the head and make the abs do the work.
You should do other exercises to also work other muscles in your body. Leg raises and work on the exercise ball can also be great for the abs. And it is important to tone all muscles to avoid injury.
If you follow these two simple ways, losing abdominal fat will be quicker than you envisioned.
